Does your organization have a crisis communications plan?

Schools and districts are constantly planning for crisis and emergency response, adhering to the many school safety laws and rules in place. From emergency plans and drills to fire safety, personal health and safety, and privacy and security, safety is top priority in our schools. But does your organization have communications incorporated into your crisis and emergency response plan?

Responding and communicating in a crisis is crucial for establishing credibility and building or maintaining trust with your constituents and stakeholders. Planning for such responses should be done before a crisis occurs so that your organization is prepared and your efforts are timely, coordinated, and considerate.

If you’re not sure how to incorporate communications into your crisis planning, APSRC has created a template to help! Members can visit the Discere on-demand content library to enroll in a free e-learning course tailored for schools. This course reviews the principles of CERC and walks you through the process of plan development. By the end of the course, you will have the beginnings of a CERC plan for your organization.

To access the course:

  • Create or login to your existing Discere account.

  • Click the User Menu (three horizontal lines at the top of the screen).

  • Then click “On-Demand Content.”
