Covenant Keepers to remain in one building - 7/13/2010 -

Arkansas Democrat Gazette

The Covenant Keepers College Preparatory School plans to remain in one building, reversing plans to seek state permission to expand into a storefront on Geyer Springs Road, a short distance from its existing campus.

The charter school's director pulled her request from the Arkansas Board of Education's Monday meeting agenda, citing concerns the move would strain the school financially.

The move was a temporary fix, founder and Superintendent Valerie Tatum said. The school plans to relocate to a larger facility in the 2011-2012 school year.

Covenant Keepers, approved in 2008, serves grades six through 10. Its charter allows it to add one grade per year, up to 12th grade.

To accommodate all classes in the current space, ninth and tenth grade teachers will share classrooms, alternating the periods they use them, Tatum said.
